On Union Square in Downtown El Dorado AR
Saturdays June 24th, July22nd, and August 26th
EL DORADO – Main Street El Dorado is proud to present the Murphy USA Summer Concert Series summer schedule. The concert series is free to the public and will feature national music artists performing outside in the heart of historic downtown El Dorado. The concerts will take place the forth Saturday of the month June through August.
The series will kick off on Saturday, June 24 with Jason D. Williams has spent a lifetime behind the piano connecting with country and rock 'n' roll greats while creating a persona that's 100 percent original. He is a recording artist for RCA and Sun Records and has been since the early 80s. At the age of 16, Williams left his hometown of El Dorado, to perform and live in Memphis and begin his solo career. After several years, he released his first album, "Tore Up," and has been on the road ever since.
Williams is also no stranger to motion pictures, performing in multiple music themed motion pictures and numerous television appearances and various shows on MTV, VH1 and CMT. A wild man onstage, Jason accredits influences like Jerry Lee Lewis, Moon Mullican, Memphis Slim and Al Jolson, for helping to develop his vast repertoire and seemingly endless energy. “I’ve always welcomed the comparisons; my influences were some of the greatest entertainers ever to be seen.” Jason continues to tour more than 160 shows a year.
The next performance of the summer takes place Saturday, July 22 with Lee Roy Parnell. Parnell is part of a long line of Texas roots-music eclectics and is among the elite few who can be identified as a triple threat. An ace guitarist, as well as a distinctive singer, and hit songwriter, his music runs the gamut of diversity. Combining the influences of Blue-Eyed Soul, Delta Blues, Road House Rock, Southern Boogie, Texas Swing, and Gospel, Parnell's sound defies conventional classification. He draws from a broad range of musical sources and combines them with seamless dexterity and, unlike many other hard-to- pigeonhole artists, Parnell has enjoyed a run of success on the country and blues charts.
The final performance of the summer will feature 1995 ACM Top New Male Vocalist nominee and Grammy Nominee, David Lee Murphy, on Saturday, Aug. 26. David Lee Murphy's "Dust On The Bottle" and "Party Crowd" have become staples at country radio and have gained a permanent spot on the repertoire of every country music cover act. "Party Crowd" was the most played song on country radio in 1995 and "Dust on the Bottle" spent two weeks at number one. Both songs were on Murphy's debut MCA album Out With A Bang which went platinum and became the best-selling debut album by a male country artist in 1995. That same year The Academy of Country Music nominated Murphy for Top New Male Vocalist.
Each concert in the Murphy USA Showtime Concert Series will begin with pre-event music at 7 p.m. on the Showtime Stage, with the headliner taking the stage at 8 p.m. The event will follow Main Street El Dorado's award-winning Showdown at Sunset performance, beginning at 6 p.m. on the steps of the Union County Courthouse at 101 N. Washington St., the center of historic Union Square. This award-winning event was named one of the Top-100 Events in North America by the American Bus Association and received the Community Trademark Award by the Arkansas Festival and Event Association.
