Dear Cooks, 

Thank you for your interest in the 2021 South of the Border Fiesta Grill War!  Included in this packed is the registration form, list of prizes, rules and regulations, liability form and other Grill Wars information.  Please read, complete, sign and return the forms as soon as possible to ensure your spot in our cook-off.  We will send you a confirmation email as soon as we receive your completed entry form.  You will not be considered registered until your entry fees are paid.

We are very excited to have this non-sanctioned cook off as part of our 2021Grill War season! We are offering over $7000 in cash and prizes for this year’s Grill Wars Series!!! For this installment, South of the Border Grill War prizes are as follows:

Street Taco-1st Place $250, 2nd Place $125, 3rd Place $75!

Salsa- !st Place $150, 2nd Place $75, 3rd Place $25

Margarita- 1st Place $150, 2nd Place $75, 3rd Place $25

 

People’s Choice Taco: We will be offering tacos to the public to vote for their favorite! You have 100% control in creativity when it comes to this part of the competition. You may garnish however you want and make your taco memorable!  The public will be given a 3-part container to get the 3 tacos they wish to taste.  More details are being sorted, just bring enough meat and fixins to take part J PRIZE INVOLVED!!!!

 

During this Grill War, we will have many exciting activities going on throughout the day, continuing into the evening for a great day in El Dorado! LIVE music, a historic prize winning re-enactment, car show, kids and family games and lots of FREE fun, around the Square!! Day-of Event Schedule is still be worked on, please check back for final schedule. 

Day-of Cook Schedule:

8-9am      Check-in and Set-up

9:30am    Cooks meeting at Chamber
                  111 E Main

11am        Judges Meeting

12-12:30   Salsa Turn In

1:30-2pm  Margarita Turn In

3-3:30pm  Taco Turn In

4-5pm       Public Tacos

5:30          Awards at Courthouse on Jefferson

RULES:
                                                                 GRILL WARS COOKING RULES- Street Tacos

1.            No food items will be provided.

2.            Cooking teams may use any type of non-poisonous charcoal or propane fuel desired.

3.            Teams must provide their own ice chests.

4.            Teams must provide their own meat, tents, tables, chairs, cooking utensils, seasoning, charcoal, etc.

5.            All meat and foods are to be handled in a sanitary manner.

6.            Some type of fire extinguisher must be in your cook area at all times.

7.            Grills may be inspected for cleanliness before cooking begins.

8.            Teams may use any type of edible meat for the tacos, along with any seasoning, etc.

9.            All meat must be prepared on-site and cooked on a grill.

10.         Edible garnish only.

11.         Cookers must submit 3 tacos for judging, fully edible and presentable.

GRILL WARS TACO JUDGING RULES

1.            “Taco” is cookers choice in all aspects! You choose the type of taco and how you prepare it.

2.            Tacos are to be judged on presentation, taste, creativity, and overall impression.

3.            No branding irons or other identifying marks are to be used on tacos submitted.

4.            Competition tacos must be presented in the provided container.

5.            There is an open tum in window judging. Late turn-ins will be disqualified. 

6.            Tacos will be judged by a panel of judges and will be in a blind judging format.

7.            Taste is the first tie-breaker.  Presentation is the second tie-breaker.

GRILL WARS MISC. RULES

1.            Decisions of the cook-off committee and judges are FINAL.

2.            No refunds on entry fees will be made.

3.            The Chief Cook will be held responsible for the team and their conduct.  Excessive alcohol use on the grounds can result in disqualification with no refund.  Under NO circumstances will alcohol be served to or given to the general public.  All alcohol must be in a plastic container.  NO BEER BOTTLES!!!!

4.            It is the responsibility of each contestant to see that the cooking area stays clean and is cleaned following the contest.  Any space let with trash will disqualify the team from future cook-offs.

5.            The cook-off committee reserved the right to make additional regulations or changes to methods as situations arise.

6.            Violation of the rules and regulations of the contest may result in disqualification, expulsion from the grounds, and disqualification of future cook-offs.

7.            No food may be sold by teams within the cook-off area.
